World leading projector manufacturer Epson chosen to provide contemporary new museum in Finland with immersive art experience from Japanese art collective teamLab
135 Epson projectors installed in brand new Helsinki-based art museum Amos Rex
September, Helsinki – Epson, the world number one manufacturer of projectors 1, is the brand of choice for newly opened art museum Amos Rex museum in central Helsinki, where immersive digital installations from teamLab are projected by 118 high lumen Epson projectors, while a further 17 are used for signage and educational purposes at different areas of the museum.
“This exhibition is a great exploration of Epson’s projectors in providing the public with a truly immersive experience, one we’re confident will help the museum reinforce Helsinki’s status as a European city of culture”, says Neil Colquhoun, executive director for professional displays, Epson Europe. “Museums, particularly those that seek to create a more modernised and engaging experience for visitors, are a practical medium for Epson projectors in bringing culture to life through sharp and bright imagery as well as long-lasting and low maintenance performance.”
Epson’s 3LCD projectors are used to project immersive digital installations by teamLab, a 500-strong interdisciplinary art collective consisting of programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects, whose aim is to “explore a new relationship between humans and the world through art”. teamLab has been launching numerous large-scale exhibitions simultaneously this year, and the Tokyo-based MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless was opened with huge success in June.
“teamLab’s exhibition is exceptionally challenging from a technical perspective. Epson’s 3LCD laser projectors are best suited to this challenge thanks to their brightness, contrast and colour reproduction,’’ says Kai Kartio, Director of the Amos Rex museum.
Described as a meeting place for art and urban culture, the Amos Rex museum is designed to create flexible facilities in order to conform to the needs of ever-changing contemporary art. Therefore the outstanding brightness and colour of 3LCD laser projectors along with the flexibility for 360° installation makes Epson, the world number one projector manufacturer, the museums ideal choice for bringing this experience to life.
Epson projectors used include 3LCD laser light source, native 4k, ultra short throw and 3LCD lamp based products. The market for projectors used in institutions, including in museums, has increased by over 70% over the past 10 years (2008 - end of 2017), with Epson claiming 30% of this and 138% more than the second highest market share holder 2.
